Introduction:
Designer gratings are sophisticated grating products that differ from the normal gratings in the respect that they are often used for decorative applications such as cladding, ceiling grilles, sunscreening etc. Designer gratings are solutions to special needs by architects and engineers or the result of their new ideas of how to incorporate gratings in their projects. The architects, engineers and ElefantRiste have then entered into a close dialogue to obtain the best possible result.
This development is ongoing, and we are receiving ever more requests for gratings for decorative purposes. Therefore we have introduced this new section organised by the application of the gratings. You may find pictures of projects where elefant® gratings have been used as well as technical data on the most common mesh sizes, material types, surface treatments etc. for the individual applications. We hope that this section may be of inspiration to the design and planning phase. Detailed project descriptions can be found in our gallery.
General details:
Appearance is very important for decorative gratings. Therefore, we are placing high demands on the manufacturing and hot-dip galvanising of design gratings.
Types of gratings:
Elefant® gratings of type SP, N, NP and ventilation gratings may all be used as design gratings, but the most common types are N & NP due to their construction.
Mesh sizes:
The mesh size is individually adapted to each project.
Material:
Most design gratings are manufactured in steel S235JRG2 (steel 37-2) but can also be manufactured in stainless materials. If weight is an issue, and the load is less important, the gratings may be manufactured in aluminium.
Surface treatment:
The standard surface treatment of the steel gratings is hot-dip galvanising in accordance with DS/EN ISO 1461 1999 but they may be delivered with other surface treatments such as:
Steel: Galvanised and power coated
Stainless steel: Pickled, Electro-polished, Shot-blasted
Aluminium: Anodised
Fixing methods:
The gratings may be attached to the construction with fixing plates or bolt holes in edge bar. Alternatively, fixing clip assembly may also be used.
Grating sizes:
The gratings may be manufactured in sizes up to a span of 3000 mm with a maximum width of 1230 mm.
Weight:
We recommend that the weight does not exceed 100 kg per grating as this makes the manufacturing process more difficult with an ensuing risk of deformations of the grating.
